“Reverse bejewelled or stone-studded creations pique inquisitiveness among the larger cross-section of ornament-purchasing public, earning its widespread affection and clinching top ratings on the list of unorthodox, new-age, fusion wearables. It disrupts and redefines the usual concept of donning and boasting valuables from a proud owner’s jewellery box,” claims jewellery designer Kanchan Shah.

The styling and presentation of back jewellery is a work of art in itself. Letting a designers’ imagination run riot, an array of carefully-crafted patterns and motifs comes in the form of graduated pearls, stone drops, layered chains or tassel endings. “An understated ripple of movement makes the jewellery piece more noticeable while walking,” gathers Shah.

Themes that create pictorial flow are particularly effective. Floral motifs, celestial elements, geometric forms and nature-inspired imageries beautifully dot and outline the spine. Subtle detailing, delicate craftsmanship and a sense of movement are essential because they help elongate and flatter the silhouette.

Ace jewellery designer and entrepreneur Leshna Shah stresses that she “admires and advocates the richness that emeralds, rubies and sapphires can bring in. The choice of gemstone should complement the outfit and the occasion, thus heightening the overall aesthetic rather than competing with it.”

Wedding functions, award ceremonies, luxury brand launches, fashion events and destination nuptials can play perfect hosts to back jewellery collection. They act as safe havens for back jewellery like a tightly-locked jewellery safe in a closet.

Back jewellery is commendably flexible. It gels well with weddings, receptions, cocktail evenings, brand endorsements, festive galas and formal red-carpet appearances.
